Josef (Joseph) Carroll Brewer
Josef (Joseph) Carroll Brewer was born on December 29, 1965 in Monroe, NC, the youngest child of the late Arthur V. Brewer Sr. and Dorothy Saxon Brewer of Pageland, SC. In 2007, his health was adversely affected, leaving him paralyzed and unable to speak. He resided at the Peak Resources of Charlotte Nursing Facility until his demise on May 22, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Although his faith was tested by his prolonged illness, Joseph’s belief in God was unshaken. He loved life and persevered despite many adversities and much suffering, holding firm to the words of our Savior: Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4).
At an early age, Joseph joined Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served as an usher until he became ill. He attended school in Pageland, SC, graduating from Central High School in 1984. As a youngster, Joseph was known for his sense of humor, boisterous behavior and love of football, farming and the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He enjoyed working with his hands and could fix just about anything. After the death of his father, Joseph attentively cared for his mother and ensured her needs were met. Although he was not able to further his education due to illness, he made his mark through the many helpful and kind deeds for people within the community, for whom he ran errands, drove to doctor’s appointments and provided assistance when needed.
Joseph leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory a sister, Arthelia Brewer of Bloomfield Hills, MI.; a brother, Arthur V. Brewer Jr.; sister-in-law, Iris McKay; and niece, Kristen Brewer, all of Plainfield, NJ; two aunts, Bernice Gill of Allendale, SC and Margaret (Ravenell) Keller of Silver Spring, MD; one uncle, Moses (Jean) Saxon of Westbury, NY; a “Guardian Angel,” Karen Jones of Charlotte, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
*“Josef,” the birth name of the deceased, was informally changed to “Joseph” when he entered school as it was more familiar than “Josef.”
